It is up to you to decide what kind of ingredients to include in your sushi. Experiment with any of your favorite foods and be creative. Here are more examples of possible ingredients: | ||||||
1. Seafood : tuna, salmon, prawns, octopus, squid, shrimp, crab, oyster, mussel, abalone, lobster, etc. Fish and shrimp are the primary ingredients for sushi, and can be used either raw or cooked. It must be fresh, and stored at 3 to 5 degrees Celcius. You can tell the freshness of these ingredients by their color and firmness to the touch. Raw fish ( sashimi ) is best if eaten the same day it is prepared. If there are leftovers, it is best to serve them cooked rather than raw. 2. Meat and Dairy Products : beef, pork, chicken, eggs, bacon, etc. Meat and dairy products should always be cooked. Frying, baking, barbecuing, steaming, and boiling are all acceptable. 3. Produce : spinach, cucumber, carrots, squash, green beans, celery, mushrooms, lettuce, fresh fruits, etc. Vegetables will provide fresh flavor and crisp texture if used raw. If you prefer cooked vegetables, steam or boil vegetables 2-3 minutes before adding into sushi. 4. Ready prepared products : canned sardines, canned tuna, peanut butter, jellies, etc. |
